Sand and Surf, Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA

I’ve admittedly been slow to post photos this week despite having many great photos from my trip down California Highway 1 over the Labour Day weekend. Mostly I’ve been busy with work and other things but honestly it’s also partially due to the fact I took so many photos – it takes a significant amount of time to sort through all the photos, pick out the “best” ones, tweak them and upload them.

Some of my favourite photos from this past weekend were also the most overwhelming to deal with. On the way down the coast, we stopped at a beautiful sandy beach in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. It was a beautiful sunny day and there was quite a bit of surf, making for dramatic and beautiful waves. In fact, after sorting through this collection of photos multiple times and being extremely liberal with deleting “all but the best”, I still had too many photos left to choose only 1 or 2 to post. So, instead I picked a collection of them and uploaded them to view as a set.

Take a look at the entire collection. You can click on either of the photos above to view the set, or I recommend viewing the slideshow to see all the images at fullsize.

Yesterday I drove the scenic route from Santa Cruz, California up to San Francisco via Highway 1. This coastline is full of beautiful sandy beaches, most of which are California state parks. I captured this photo at one of the few accessible beaches which isn’t a park (and thus doesn’t have an official name, or at least a sign with the name). The surf was quite high here which made wading difficult but made for beautiful scenic effect.

I especially liked the flock of seagulls that flew in as I was taking this picture and the mist hanging along the coast in the distance. It’s easier to see in a larger version of the photo, view it here.
