I was in San Francisco at Crissy Field on Sunday to watch the Blue Angels and the airshow as part of 2008 Fleet Week. While walking alone the shoreline trail I saw this rough fence post leaning to one side with the Golden Gate bridge in the background. The bay was filled with boats that day to watch the festivities above, you can still see some in the photo despite most having left shortly after the airshow ended.

Monday, October 13th, 2008Foggy Sunset at Golden Gate
Monday, September 29th, 2008If you head up Marine Drive in Golden Gate Park, past Crissy field and Fort Mason, you’ll find this beautiful spot with a fantastic view of the Golden Gate Bridge. I stopped here Saturday evening just before sunset and watched the fog roll in over the Golden Gate Bridge. It was quite chilly here, with at least a 15 degree (F) drop in temperature from the east side of San Francisco.
The fog really subdued the effect of the sunset in the sky but watching it drift silently over the bridge and listening to the sounds of the water along the shore was quite peaceful. My timing was even lucky enough to capture the freighter passing under the bridge and the bird walking along the beach.
Sand and Surf Album
Friday, September 5th, 2008I’ve admittedly been slow to post photos this week despite having many great photos from my trip down California Highway 1 over the Labour Day weekend. Mostly I’ve been busy with work and other things but honestly it’s also partially due to the fact I took so many photos – it takes a significant amount of time to sort through all the photos, pick out the “best” ones, tweak them and upload them.Â
Some of my favourite photos from this past weekend were also the most overwhelming to deal with. On the way down the coast, we stopped at a beautiful sandy beach in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. It was a beautiful sunny day and there was quite a bit of surf, making for dramatic and beautiful waves. In fact, after sorting through this collection of photos multiple times and being extremely liberal with deleting “all but the best”, I still had too many photos left to choose only 1 or 2 to post. So, instead I picked a collection of them and uploaded them to view as a set.
Take a look at the entire collection. You can click on either of the photos above to view the set, or I recommend viewing the slideshow to see all the images at fullsize.
Sand & Surf, Highway 1
Monday, August 11th, 2008Yesterday I drove the scenic route from Santa Cruz, California up to San Francisco via Highway 1. This coastline is full of beautiful sandy beaches, most of which are California state parks. I captured this photo at one of the few accessible beaches which isn’t a park (and thus doesn’t have an official name, or at least a sign with the name). The surf was quite high here which made wading difficult but made for beautiful scenic effect.
I especially liked the flock of seagulls that flew in as I was taking this picture and the mist hanging along the coast in the distance. It’s easier to see in a larger version of the photo, view it here.
