Paradise Pier, California Adventure at Disneyland
This photo was taken back in March on a trip to Disneyland in Anaheim California. Pictured is the Ferris Wheel and Mickey Mouse roller coaster at Paradise Pier. Paradise Pier is located in the Disney’s California Adventure.
California Adventure was built to enhance the experience at Disneyland, and to help the park appeal to a wider audience. It is designed for a more mature audience than Disneyland itself, with more exciting thrill rides and attractions. California Adventure also is also designed to “[celebrate] the richness and the diversity of California”; the park entrance gates are a miniture version of the golden gate bridge. Inside there are many California-themed restaurants, a mockup of downtown Hollywood, a miniture Napa-valley style vineyard, a miniture version of San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts, a wharf styled after Monterey’s Cannery Row and many California-inspired attractions. One of the most enjoyable (non-thriller) rides is “Soarin’ (over California)” which offers a very convincing simulation of flying over California in a hand glider.

I spent some time in San Francisco Friday evening, mostly since I hadn’t been in the city for awhile and was eager to look around. I spent several hours walking around, it was a great chance to take some photos. I’ll post some of the more interesting ones over the next week.
I was taking a picture of the sign at Fisherman’s Wharf when this seagull flew in and landed underneath. I think he wanted to pose for me!

Western Brook Pond Fjord, Gros Morne National Park
This beautiful landscape photograph was taken during a trip to Gros Morne National Park on the northern peninsula of Newfoundland, Canada in 2002. The photo is of Western Brook Pond, a glacier-carved land-locked fjord set in the Long Range Mountains which is the northern extent of the Appalachian Mountains. The lake itself is approx 16km (9.9mi) at its widest point and about 540ft deep. Much of the lake is surrounded by steep rock cliffs up to 2000 ft high and most of the year waterfalls cascade over the rock faces at various points.

This photo is taken at one of my favourite places on earth, a small island called Exploits Island in Notre Dame Bay, just off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. The island was once a thriving community, but over the years people resettled to larger communities, and now the place is used entirely for summer cottages and a limited fishing industry.
The hill in silhouette in this picture is called “the lookout”, since it is rather high and looks directly out over the Atlantic Ocean. The sunsets are frequently breathtaking here, and this picture is a good example of that!
