These bold red tulips are certainly a cheery sign that spring has arrived in St. John’s. I saw these bright flowers while walking in downtown St. John’s on Saturday afternoon and couldn’t resist a photo.

HMCS Corner Brook

On Saturday, I enjoyed some of the fabulous sunny weather by taking a walk along the waterfront in St. John’s with my camera. As it happened, the submarine HMCS Corner Brook happened to be docked in port for a few days with a few naval officers answering questions from passers-by. Unfortunately there were no tours – it is on active duty after all – but nonetheless it was interesting to see this submarine up this close and get some great photos of it. It’s not everyday you see something like this in St. John’s.

Late Autumn Sunset

Late Autumn Sunset

It was very nice to see the sunshine out in full force today after a week of much fog and rain. After work I dressed up warm – the autumn air is getting very chilly! – and went for a walk. I took this photo on a walking trail not far from my home in St. John’s, Newfoundland. This small pond is a temporary calm point in the Virgina River where the water slows to a crawl before flowing under the bridge and swiftly downstream again.

There are only a few colours of autumn left showing in the trees this year, the weather has stripped most of the leaves from the trees. The colours in the sky as the sun set this evening however more than made up the difference.
