Sunrise over Mount Diablo, Walnut Creek

Sunrise over Mount Diablo in Walnut Creek, California I captured one morning earlier this month.

As the year draws to an end, it’s getting much easier to capture sunrise/early morning shots as you no longer have to get out of bed at such a difficult hour!

Muir Woods National Monument, Mill Valley, CA

I took this photo while hiking at the John Muir Woods National Monument, just north of San Francisco, California. These giant redwood trees tower hundreds of feet overhead and nearly block out all light on the forest floor below. If you view the large version of this photo (link below), you can just see a fencepost in the bottom right corner of the photo, which gives you an idea of the size of these trees.

Abandoned Military Tunnel at Hawk's Hill

This tunnel is one of several in an abandoned military structure at Hawk’s Hill in the Marin Headlands just above the Golden Gate Bridge. The structure was built to defend San Francisco from an attack by sea during World War II but was abandoned before completion near the end of the war when it was apparent America was not at threat.

I’m only just getting to finish sorting through the photos I took this past Saturday at Lake Del Valle. Here are three more scenic shots I took on my hike around the lake. The first shot is a HDR composite of three images, the others are regular photographs. I used HDR on the first photo to capture the detail in shadow on the tree branch that would have otherwise been lost.
